Lyrics
The angel Gabriel from heaven came
His wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame
"All hail" said he, "O lowly maiden
Most highly favoured maid"
Gloria!
"For lo! the blessed mother thou shalt be
What generations longed honor thee
Thy son shall be Emmanuel, thy seal, forsooth
Most highly favoured maid"
Gloria!
Then gentle Benedict he bade
"To me be as it pleaseth God", she said
"Thy soul shall more than man be valued
Most highly favoured maid"
Gloria!
"O far Emmanuel, the Christ was born
In Bethlehem, where all the Christian's mourn
And Christian folk throughout the world proclaim
Most highly favoured maid"
Gloria!
