Lyrics
Oh back in the days
From ancient tribes and from ancient people
We were trodding this land long before you came here
Civilisation you said you were bringing
But you imposed religion and burn down tradition
Look at Benin city oh what is left
You plundered all the riches all the sacred art works
You burnt all the books
Erasing the truth
You put us in a state of mind
Empty promises that all will be fine
From Igbo land to Yuruba Kingdom
From sokoto caliphate to tiv tradition
Africa the birthplace of creation
But now are just the barn of every nation
So many raw materials we have there
They come and pollute the water and the air
We're begging for food
We've now become their fools
Why must we come last brothers and sisters
We can do better than that you know
Make you believe it's a fact that things are better
Why they stab you in the back
Why must we come last
We can do better than that
Look at Benin city oh what is left
You plundered all the riches all the sacred art works
You burnt all the books
Erasing the truth
You put us in a state of mind
Empty promises that all will be fine
Oh back in the days
