Hold Me While You Wait

The speaker seems to be facing a relationship that is fading or close to ending. He misses how the couple used to be and asks the other person to turn back, explain what happened, and stay a little longer. His feelings develop from longing and uncertainty into more direct hurt: he wishes he felt good enough and that the other person cared more. Even so, he continues to hope they might still have something worth saving.

“Losing light” suggests that hope or closeness is disappearing. “Wake you up” may mean more than waking someone from sleep: the speaker wants the other person to notice the relationship’s problems and respond emotionally. The repeated request to be held “while you wait” is tender but uneasy. It suggests he knows the other person may leave, and wants comfort during the uncertain time before that happens.

The lyrics do not make clear whether the relationship is definitely over, or whether the speaker is waiting for a decision or change. His statement that his faith is shaken but he still believes captures this conflict: he doubts the future yet cannot let go of hope. The song can be heard as a plea for closeness, but also as an acknowledgment that affection alone may not be enough to keep two people together.
