Lyrics
The last time the river was this high
It washed away my faith.
And it's been raining now for 2 long weeks
Oh, they're closing up the floodgates.
Against the current and all the debris
You could set your clocks by the Eva Kelley
She's been pushing coal past every river town on the Ohio.
At first light, the fog was all around
We couldn't see a thing.
A distant horn blows five times,
O, h there's trouble up ahead.
And on the back watch I wonder just how
We could turn this ol' tugboat around
She's been pushing coal past every river town on the Ohio.
Most time she hauls rich black gold,
But it's drying up these days.
As you can still hear her engines whine
Towing stone and grey
The tides may shift and the tow might change,
But I'm not worth the ship by any other name
She's been pushing coal past every river town on the Ohio.
