The speaker begins lonely and without hope for love, addressing the Blue Moon as if it were a quiet witness. The moon turning “to gold” suggests that the scene has become joyful or precious, rather than describing a literal change in the sky. “Someone I really could care for” presents love as more than attraction: the speaker hopes to give affection as well as receive it.

The sudden arrival of the beloved makes the change feel almost magical, but the lyrics leave some details unclear. The whispered “Please adore me” could be the new person’s words, or a voice the speaker imagines hearing in the excitement of the moment.
