A Twist In The Tale

The lyrics describe a relationship or personal story that has reached a turning point. The speaker looks back at a fading image of someone once important, while the other person seems caught in dreams and unable to face what is happening. The repeated reassurance that there is “a change” suggests acceptance, though the change may bring loss as well as possibility.

Several images make this shift vivid. Watching from a house on a hill while the world spins suggests distance from life and a feeling of being stuck. A dream that “drops like a stone” seems to disappear suddenly and completely. “Head in the clouds” is an idiom for being unrealistic or distracted, while “no room to breathe” implies that someone’s grasping or demands have become suffocating.

The “twist in the tale” can mean an unexpected change in events, but it may also point to a changed understanding of the relationship: what once seemed meaningful now looks different. The speaker’s memory of seeing the other person “dancing on air” is tender, yet the claim that no one else cared sounds lonely and perhaps possessive. The final admission of love, paired with “don’t ask me why,” leaves the feelings unresolved. The lyrics could be about separation, disillusionment, or simply recognizing that a plan has changed; they do not explain exactly what happened.
