Don't Stop

The speaker describes a relationship that is both intensely exciting and painful. At first, the partner’s passion seems to awaken him and warm his “cold, cold heart.” He repeatedly begs them not to stop, but later realizes that their feelings may be fading. The mood shifts from eager desire toward fear of being left behind.

The physical images—bitten lips, sharp nails, and “poison darts”—make intimacy sound like a struggle that can hurt as well as thrill. They may be playful or erotic images, but they also suggest emotional wounds. Asking for his pride back and not to be “hung out to dry” means he wants to be treated with some dignity and not abandoned without support.
