Now this here is one of the first spirituals
Long years ago that people, before our people was free
They sang on plantations
Well, Baptist people were the first denomination
There was in them times
And when they'd get together and go to
Church at Baptist church, they'd sing
And when they'd sing 'bout this song, they didn't speed up their music
They'd take it slow and easy
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Now the methods, they gonna come along and pick it up
That's the late generation
And they picks up the music
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Now when the methods give out a hymn
They just keep right on just like they sang
Amazing grace, how sweet it sounds
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Now here come the Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost come along late
And when they come along late they get your
Name straight 'cause they drive the song
Don't fool yourself
Now they gonna pick up the speed and that's
Where you get this rhythm and swing at
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
When they give out a hymn
Must I be carried to the sky
On cloud, or birds of ease
And must I fight to win the prize
And sail through bloody seas
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let it shine on me
Let your light from the lighthouse shine on me
