You got a good thing, my friend, hold on tight
Don't do like somebody I know, let it slip on out of sight
Try hard, try some more
'Cause a thing worth having is something worth fighting for
Tried your best (ain't it hard?)
But you failed the test (ain't it hard?)
Baby, best ain't good enough
ย
Well now, I try to be forgiving, and we all mess up sometimes
But you take kindness for weakness, you really think my love is blind
Yeah, but you just pulled your last and your shortest straw
And now it's really over and I don't want you no more
Tried your best (ain't it hard?)
But you failed the test (ain't it hard?)
Oh, best just ain't good enough
I've been trying for such a long, long time
To keep this good thing going on
Oh, if you don't try, then you just don't get it
Believe me, I've been trying for so long
Best ain't good enough
ย
I've been trying for such a long, long time, oh
To keep a good thing going on
Oh, but what's the point if your good thing gone bad
And the love is already gone?
Love's already gone, oh!
ย
Mmm, yeah, yeah
Mmm, mmm
