When I think about the systemic nature of chains and jewelry, and flexing, huh, in hip-hop
What do you personally think that comes from?
Why do you think? For example, you know
Big L said, "I got more riches than you, got more bitches than you"
"Only thing I don't got is more stitches than you"
Like, you know, what, what is it about our nature in hip-hop
That we're always so braggadocios and flashy?
Why do you think that is?
I feel like, you know, uh
You know, back in the day as a Black man, you know, we didn't really never have anything (hmm)
And you know, once we get something, man
We gotta show you and let you know that we got it, you know what I'm sayin'?
And that's just how it always been
From the beginning of the days of time when, you know, Black folk got shit
We nevะตr had it, you know what I'm sayin'?
So we got a new car, it be likะต, "Nigga, I got a new car," (ha-ha-ha-ha)
You know what I'm sayin'? Shit (yeah, for sure, for sure)
Every time I used to buy a new car, I used to ride around the neighborhood
Every time I get a new car
I'm ridin' 'round the neighborhood with the windows down, music blastin' loud (hmm)
I mean, look at me (yeah)
I just bought, I bought a three-hundred thousand dollar Maybach, shot a video in it the same day
I recorded a rap, I set up my shit, I feel you, bro (heh-heh-heh)
Yeah, that's what you're supposed to do (a hundred percent)
Take advantage of it, you know?
But, that's just, that's just how it's been, you know
Um, if you look at the early, early rap like Kurtis Blow
I don't think they was doin' like a lot of jewelry and shit like that
But then when Run-DMC came with them big chains and them Adidas (mm-hmm)
That kinda set the trend right there
Everybody was like, "Ah, shit," you know, "They got these big ass ropes on" (eh-heh)
Then all of a sudden, you start seein' everybody with these big ropes and shit, LL Cool J
So, like, a lot of them started a lot of that, um, jewelry, um, bein' fresh and shit
You know, most of that shit came from New York (for sure)
Dapper Dan, you know what I'm sayin'? Bein' fresh and shit
So, I think that's a, that's a, that's a cool look, I feel like, you know
I don't, I don't see nothing wrong with it, man
If you got somethin', man, you know, if you wanna throw some rims on it and some candy paint
Whatever you wanna do, yeah
