Blood Bank

The lyrics move from a strange, thoughtful meeting in a blood bank to a quiet moment of intimacy during a snowfall. At first, the speakers look at blood bags and wonder about the people connected to them. Later, trapped in a car, they warm each other’s hands and kiss. The repeated phrase “I know it well” suggests a feeling or truth they recognize deeply, even if it is difficult to explain.

The blood bags, with colors and names on their tags, may suggest family resemblance and hidden connections: one bag looks like another, just as relatives can share something unseen. The “secret” that is hard to tell seems emotionally powerful and troubling, affecting a person’s sense of honor and thoughts. “Running you with red” can be read as blood and life driving someone, or as strong feelings that cannot be kept separate from the body.

The song leaves the secret undefined, so it could be love, desire, family knowledge, or another difficult truth; the lyrics do not settle the question. The second verse makes the relationship feel more mutual, especially when the speaker says they are in love with the other person’s “honor” and “cheeks.” The creaking upstairs and “Christmas morning” may hint at someone else nearby or at the fragile, domestic calm of the moment, but their exact meaning remains open.
