Epidemic

The lyrics portray an infection that grows inside the body, spreads beyond control, and leads toward pain and death. The mood becomes increasingly threatening: what begins as something hidden and dormant develops into a force that takes over the body. The ending adds a grim sense of time, suggesting that a cure may remain out of reach for years.

Several images make the illness seem like an invading power. It “floods your veins” and takes “possession” of an “inner throne,” as if the body were a kingdom being conquered. “Dormant seed” suggests that the danger can lie quietly inside before it begins to grow. The phrase “death machine” makes the disease sound efficient and unstoppable, while “slow death” emphasizes a gradual decline rather than a sudden end.

The lyrics can be read as a vivid description of a deadly epidemic, but their language also turns disease into a symbol of something that spreads and dominates. The exact target of that symbolism is not stated, so it may be best to understand the song as focusing on fear of losing control over one’s own body. Its extreme images create a sense of horror, rather than offering a realistic medical account.
