Way Down

The lyrics describe a speaker drawn into an intense, intimate encounter. At first, the room grows quieter and darker as the other person comes closer. The speaker’s resistance fades, and excitement builds into a feeling of being swept away. The repeated “way down” suggests going deeper into this experience, both physically and emotionally, though the song leaves the exact meaning open.

Several images make the feelings vivid. A “tidal wave” suggests a powerful force that is difficult to resist, while “fires blaze” conveys heat and passion. Saying the other person has the speaker “in your spell” presents attraction as if it were magic: the speaker feels captivated and not fully in control. The “whirling carousel” image adds dizziness and motion, matching the speaker’s spinning head.

The lyrics use playful, heightened language rather than explaining the relationship or the events directly. The “medicine” that no doctor could prescribe is a metaphor for love’s powerful effect, not a literal cure. “Way down” may refer to surrendering to desire, reaching a deeper emotional state, or simply intensifying the song’s sensual mood. These meanings can overlap, so the lyrics support a suggestive reading without requiring one precise interpretation.
