My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Was the cry He heard comin' from the middle tree
In agony, He watched them crucify His Son
But His heart was crushed
When He heard that awful cry
He watched them lead Him down the road that led to Pilate's hall
He watched them beat Him on His back, while the blood did freely fall
He watched them place the crown of thorns, spit upon His face
But the worst of all the moments came when He heard His own Son say
My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me?
Was the cry He heard comin' from the middle tree
In agony, He watched them crucify His Son
But His heart was crushed
When He heard that awful cry
He shook the earth with a mighty quake
And He hid the sun from view
He struck the hearts of a priests with fear
When He rent the veil in two
My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me?
Was the cry He heard comin' from the middle tree
In agony, He watched them crucify His Son
But His heart was crushed
When He heard that awful cry
The holy wrath of God
Upon His Son was laid
The sacrifice for sin
Jesus had made
My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me?
Was the cry He heard comin' from the middle tree
In agony, He watched them crucify His Son
But His heart was crushed
When He heard that awful cry
