Well, I toured last year, whenever it was, with Innocence Mission
Karen Perris has that really great voice
I mean, I don't know if everyone likes it
I certainly do
Some people that like like, which I do, Aretha Franklin
It's not that kind of voice
It's like a pale, ethereal child
You know, sort of a voice of the spirits that Karen Perris has
It's a total white thing
But it's almost like gospel in itself
It's very spiritual but it's totally white
And something about her voice is just really
I really like it
And while we were touring I wrote this song
Once in a hotel that I was about to throw away
I played it for Wes, my manager
He said, "This is really good
Some of these lines suck
You should change a few of these lines"
And I was about to throw it away
So I made it
And just a story like, basically
I mean, from my education, my
Understanding is that life itself is just
It's a thing that you do
And there's responsibilities you have while you're alive
And then at some point you're not alive
You go on to something else
Basically the same place that you came from before you were alive
You can't describe that place, right?
But you could describe what it isn't
It's a pretty good descriptive technique
Is to describe what something isn't
And it isn't this and isn't this
And you pretty much name everything
So you're left with, oh, some impression
So that's what that song is
And she sings on it with me
Sounds pretty good
We did it in one shot
