The blue hills of Breffni shinin' in the sun
Since that I knew so long ago
When in my childhood, barefoot I would run
To the fields and the woodlands I'd go
Down by the river, there's an old swimmin' pool
Where we laughed and played the summer days away
Then home in the evenin', when the sun was sinkin' low
In the blue hills of Breffni far away
Far away, far away
The blue hills of Breffni far away
Old memories burning, seem I'll be returning
To my blue hills of Breffni far away
ย
I had a sweetheart, she was young and fair
And she cared not that I had no wealth or fame
We'd go walk hand in hand through the leafy land
To the old oak tree when we once carved our name
There we made our promises, we'd never part
And our love would last forever and the day
I went to Rome and left my love behind
In the blue hills of Breffni far away
Far away, far away
The blue hills of Breffni far away
Old memories burning, seem I'll be returning
To my blue hills of Breffni far away
Old memories burning, seem I'll be returning
To my blue hills of Breffni far away
