Romeo And Juliet

The song presents a love that has broken down, told mainly through Romeo’s regretful voice. At first, he approaches Juliet with the confidence of a romantic singer, but she now treats their past as something casual and finished. His feelings remain intense, so the emotional movement is from playful courtship to hurt, longing, and the admission that he cannot stop loving her.

Several images show the gap between romance and reality. “The dice were loaded from the start” suggests that the relationship was unfair or doomed before it began, though Romeo may be speaking from pain rather than stating an objective fact. The “movie song” and the imagined “place for us” refer to a familiar, idealized love story; Romeo believes their timing was wrong, while Juliet seems to have moved on. “Kiss you through the bars of a rhyme” suggests that he can reach her only through his song, not in real life.

The lyrics leave room to question Romeo’s version of events. He remembers promises and shared intimacy, but his account is one-sided, and Juliet’s brief responses suggest she sees the relationship differently. His devotion may be sincere, yet it also keeps him attached to an ideal of their past. The song’s sadness comes from that mismatch: he still hopes for a lasting story, while she may consider it over.
