Kiss Lonely Good-Bye

The speaker is overwhelmed with joy because a loved one has returned and the relationship has begun again. The reunion brings relief after a period of separation and heartache. The feelings develop from disbelief and emotional caution to gratitude and hope: the speaker even cries, but now the tears express happiness as well as remembered pain.

Several images make this change feel visible. Pinching oneself suggests that the reunion seems too wonderful to be real. Clouds that appear happy and a smiling sun reflect the speaker’s newly bright outlook, rather than necessarily describing the weather. “Kiss lonely good-bye” turns loneliness into something that can be left behind, while sharing love with the world imagines private happiness spreading outward to others.

The song does not say that the past was painless or that love can solve every kind of loneliness. The speaker remembers difficult nights but says they would not change the past, because doing so might have prevented this reunion. That is a hopeful, emotional judgment, not proof that suffering was necessary.
