Lyrics meaning

The lyrics describe a neighbor, Frank, who owns an absurdly huge television. The speaker admires it, and the neighbors gather to see the screen and hear its powerful sound. The mood is playful and exaggerated: what begins as amazement turns into excitement, as the speaker decides to get a giant TV too.

The TV is said to block the sun, tower above redwood trees, and show a tiny detail on an actor’s face as if it were enormous. These impossible images make the scale of the set a joke rather than a realistic description. “Green” means jealous here: the neighbors wish they had a TV like Frank’s. The line about watching a show from thirty blocks away also playfully suggests that the screen is so large it can be seen from far across town.

The song can be heard as a gentle satire of people showing off expensive possessions and wanting what their neighbors have. Frank’s remote control gives him power over what everyone watches, while the speaker seems happy to share in the spectacle—and soon hopes to own one. Still, the tone is more silly than critical; the lyrics do not clearly condemn Frank or the speaker. The wildly oversized TV is mainly a comic fantasy about entertainment, envy, and having the biggest version of something.
