Chan Chan

The lyrics combine a repeated journey through named places with a brief, playful love story. The speaker openly admits strong affection, then describes two people working by the sea and one feeling embarrassed. The mood is warm and easygoing rather than dramatic; the repeated route gives the song a steady, traveling feel.

“Se me sale la babita” literally suggests that the speaker is drooling, but here it humorously expresses how much the beloved affects him. “Cernían arena” means they were sifting sand, a practical task that anchors the scene in everyday work. When Chan Chan feels shy about shaking the sieve, her embarrassment adds a light, human moment. The speaker’s request to clear straw so he can sit also sounds casual and conversational.

The place names and repeated lines may matter less as a plot than as a musical refrain, creating a sense of movement and return. The song does not explain exactly who Juan and Chan Chan are or what their relationship is, so the scene can be read simply as a small episode of attraction and shyness. The repeated declaration of love makes the feeling clear, while the surrounding details leave the story open and unhurried.
