Ready Or Not

The speaker makes an intense promise of love, offering nearly everything he has to the person he loves. At first, the song sounds confident and full of devotion: he says nothing will stop him from reaching her. Later, though, the promise becomes more vulnerable. Calling his love “a fountain” presents it as abundant and continually flowing. “Ready or not” can sound like a declaration that his love is there regardless of the situation, though it may also carry a note of urgency.

The lyrics celebrate wholehearted devotion, but they also leave some uncertainty. The speaker’s repeated promises may be romantic confidence, or they may reveal how strongly he needs the beloved to accept him and stay with him.
