This song is dedicated to all of the lives lost on August 8th 2023
In my hometown of Lahaina, Maui
From day one, our community has served as an example to the world
Of how you come together in a time of need
With little assistance and the road ahead may be long but the spirit
Of this culture is no stranger to resilience!
The world may have forgotten about us but we remain
LAHAINA FUCKING STRONG
We awoke, no power no signal no warning of danger
Then came the winds, the catalyst of death and we had no chance
The hours passed, little did we know hell was unfolding
As mothers hugged, their kids not knowing if it'd be their last!
Do you see, the tears we hold?
Can you feel the pain that never ends?
How would you feel, if the system failed you?
How would you feel, knowing they headed the warnings?
A strong historical community that was once the royal capital of
King Kamehameha
Now a desolate charred remnant at the hands of corporate &
County malfeasance
Homelessness, suicide, this is the new norm that we never asked for!
We have a chance, to claim what's ours!
We have a chance, to right the wrongs!
We have a chance, to restore our vision!
We have a chance, we'll never get again!
