The lyrics present a speaker who sees life as a mix of danger, ambition, loss, and survival. He describes violence and hardship alongside growing success, but wealth does not erase the risks or answer every question. The repeated claim that he is โlike life or deathโ gives him a forceful, self-assured voice, while moments of doubt show that confidence exists alongside reflection.
Several images make these contrasts vivid. A baby being born at the same time as a friend is killed places beginnings and endings side by side. โStreet scripturesโ suggests that his writing offers lessons or guidance to people facing difficult choices. The contrast between moving from poverty to wealth shows ambition, but the observation that the dead cannot take their riches with them questions what money is ultimately worth.
The comparisons in the final verse are deliberately varied and sometimes boastful: the speaker likens himself to danger, comfort, excitement, and a poor personโs dream. These images build a larger-than-life persona, but they do not all point to one simple meaning. He may be presenting himself as both a product of street life and an artist who turns experience into words. The songโs confidence can therefore be heard as celebration, self-definition, or a way of confronting a harsh world.
