Automatic

The speaker describes a powerful reaction to someone they are attracted to. When this person is nearby, the speaker feels unable to think or act normally: intended words come out as nonsense, their body reacts, and their mood swings from sadness to excitement. The repeated claim that everything is “automatic” suggests these responses feel involuntary.

The lyrics use machine images to make the feeling vivid. “All of my systems are down” compares the speaker to a machine that has stopped working, while words trapped “in a circuitry” suggest thoughts caught in a confusing mental system. The other person’s “X-ray vision” is likely not literal: it suggests the speaker feels seen through, exposed, or unable to hide their feelings. “Walking blindfolded” conveys a loss of direction and control.

The tone is playful, but the attraction also sounds unsettling. The speaker calls it “madness” and mentions weak legs, shaking hands, and seeking doctors, yet the exaggerated language may be comic rather than a serious account of illness. The song can be heard as celebrating the excitement of being overwhelmed by desire, while also showing how vulnerable and powerless that experience can feel.
