Talk Talk

The speaker describes a scandal or personal mistake that has damaged their reputation and social life. They accept some responsibility, saying they were wrong and that the trouble may be deserved, but they still feel exposed and unable to rest. As the lyrics progress, embarrassment turns into withdrawal: the speaker avoids people and waits for the gossip to fade.

“Hide my face” suggests shame, while “my name is mud” is an idiom meaning that other people now think badly of someone. “Out of circulation” implies being absent from social life, not literally moving around less. The repeated “talk talk” points to gossip or rumors that keep the speaker’s mistake alive in public discussion.

The lyrics leave the original offense unspecified, so listeners cannot know exactly what happened or how serious it was. The speaker’s admission of fault sounds sincere, but the lines about being “up to here in lies” may suggest that the situation has grown more complicated than a single mistake. Their retreat could be an attempt to escape judgment, though it does not resolve the underlying problem. The song balances self-blame with frustration at being talked about.
