Axilla (Part II)

The lyrics move between a small scene of summer heat and a stranger, more inward reflection. The speaker seems uncomfortable and wishes things could return to how they were, but recognizes that what has disappeared cannot simply be restored. Several images suggest discomfort with the body and with identity. The speaker says the body is left “layin’ out on the floor,” which may picture neglect or detachment rather than a literal event. Describing its shape as “a curiosity” makes the body seem unfamiliar, almost like something being examined. Later, tracing an image in sand suggests a temporary attempt to understand or define oneself: sand can be reshaped or erased, so the picture cannot remain secure.

The mood is playful and odd in places, but also uneasy. The changing images do not form one clearly explained story, and the refrain may interrupt rather than clarify it. One interpretation is that the lyrics express alienation from both the body and the past; another is that their surreal, shifting language is meant to resist a single definite meaning.
