Next Contestant

The lyrics describe a narrator watching people flirt with his girlfriend while she works, apparently in a nightlife setting. His irritation grows into jealousy and threats of violence. He presents himself as protecting her, but his anger also seems directed at her clothing and the attention she receives. The repeated refrain makes the conflict feel like a cycle that is becoming more intense, not something the narrator is calmly resolving.

“Next contestant” compares each person who approaches her to someone entering a competition, as if the narrator expects to confront them one after another. “Leave here limping” is a threat: he imagines injuring anyone who touches her.
