In Your Eyes

The lyrics describe someone moving from deep distress toward renewed strength and hope. At first, this person seems mentally overwhelmed and emotionally isolated. Gradually, the speaker notices a change: the darkness lifts, hope appears, and the person becomes ready to act boldly. The repeated image of “fire” in their eyes suggests energy, courage, or a strong desire to begin again.

Several images show this emotional shift. “Drownin’ in the rain” presents pain as something that can overwhelm a person, while the sky changing from “black” to “white” suggests a move from despair toward clarity. “Calm before the storm” and “dark before the dawn” are familiar expressions: they imply that a difficult or quiet period may come just before major change or relief. The “burning flame” similarly represents an intense feeling that changes the person.

The song’s confidence is strong, but its exact story remains open. The speaker may be describing a friend, a partner, or someone they care about, and the “rules” they break are not specified. The lyrics also do not explain what caused the pain. Their focus is less on the details of the struggle than on the possibility of transformation—and on the speaker’s belief that they can see this new strength emerging.
