Lyrics
I went down to the frozen lake
The hour early, morning shocked awake
Distant dogs barked like warning shots
No-one to hear if the clocks have stopped
Something cruel of ferocious might
Froze the water in the night
No-one anywhere to ask
How the lake has turned to dead black glass
Sharp mid-morning has no tale to tell
The frozen sun is like a funeral bell
You can almost hear its sullen tone
While fish are underneath entombed
An early-hours snow-ghost blew
Sniffing for a crack or two
With nothing to satisfy its lust
Left only ice like diamond dust
Keep holding on till the thaw has come
