Lyrics meaning
The song follows a married man who goes out looking for excitement and attention. At first he feels confident, dresses to impress, drinks, and flirts. As the night continues, he is tempted to cheat, but he also hesitates and tries to talk himself out of it. His drinking gets out of control, and he ends up sick rather than acting on his desire. The mood shifts from playful boasting to confusion and alarm.
The “pretty thing” is the woman he flirts with, while the repeated “ring” reminds us that he is married and trying to hide that fact. “We could make it happen, but we only sip our drinks” suggests sexual possibility without saying that anything actually happens. Later, he describes alcohol as a way to forget, but drinking does not solve his conflict; it makes him less able to manage it. The comic image of his head beside the toilet becomes an unexpected escape from temptation.
The lyrics make fun of the narrator’s self-important, boastful attitude, but they also show a real struggle between desire and responsibility. His claim that vomiting “saved” his marriage is probably a joke, not proof that his choices were wise or harmless. The English section adds a twist: the woman may want more than a brief flirtation, and he suddenly fears the consequences. It is unclear whether she is serious or whether his drunken imagination magnifies the situation.
