Lyrics
Jerry was unwanted by any band
As he mistook computers for an instrument
He found himself a way to rhyme June with spoon
An overnight sensation thanks to autotune
It didn't take long for him to find out that
Yesteryear's fashion has become old hat
For every guy next door drinks from the same well
Pop music ain't dead, it has a funny smell
Looks like the keepers of the gates left town
I guess we won't be seeing them around
All we hear is some unhinged sounds
How I long for the old-fashioned ways
Of the keepers of the gates
Blind Joey McGuinsley looked very bored
Goin' for that revolutionary chord
He tried his luck and moved down to London Town
Soon was turning everybody's heads around
The elder statesmen lifted him to flash
As he hit the bigtime in a dollar bash
His fantasy it blossomed with a heartfelt feel
And people told each other that the kid's for real
Looks like the keepers of the gates left town
I guess we won't be seeing them around
All we hear is some unhinged sounds
How I long for the old-fashioned ways
Of the keepers of the gates
Looks like the race to the bottom's on
And there ain't nothing that can be done
But to long for the old-fashioned ways
Of the keepers of the gates
