It's mournful to tell you a story so sad
It's about a new trawler and the equipment she had
'Twas fitted with radar and lifeboats for sea
'Twas blessed for the ocean, the Evelyn Marie
There were six gallant fishermen, they were men of the sea
Some qualified skippers, their nets to cast free
They'd fish the wild ocean at every degree
On that beautiful trawler, the Evelyn Marie
They guided this trawler for a year and some days
What ill fate befell them and made the freak waves?
A call to their comrades, "Mayday out at sea
Assist us this moment with Evelyn Marie"
"Assistance now coming, Summer Star and her crew
With God's help, we'll make it, the trawler is new"
But disaster had struck and they just saw her stern
As she sank by the rocks there, near Rathlin O'Birne
So come all ye, good people, I will ask one and all
Say a prayer for the fishermen around Donegal
Think of the six skippers that were lost out at sea
On that beautiful trawler, the Evelyn Marie
