Lemon

The lyrics seem to describe longing for a woman who is vivid and elusive. The speaker feels himself slipping under and drifting away, yet also reaching toward her. Later, the song widens its focus to human work and invention, suggesting that people build and create while still yearning for something they cannot quite reach. The repeated idea that midnight begins the day hints at a possible new start emerging from darkness.

The “lemon” color stands out against sunlight and a cold grey night, making the woman seem bright but difficult to see clearly. Drawing water “from the stone” suggests finding strength or life in a place that seems barren. The man who turns money into light may refer to film or images: he uses technology to search for the woman, but also to see himself reflected. “She’s your destination” presents her as a goal, while “she’s imagination” makes that goal less tangible.

The song leaves open whether the woman is a real person, a memory, or an imagined ideal. Its images of projection and staring suggest that the man may be seeking not only her, but also an image shaped by his own desires. The emotional movement is therefore mixed: he reaches toward hope, yet remains uncertain and unable to fully escape his distance from what he wants.
