The speaker imagines becoming successful and self-sufficient, then wanting someone who may have rejected or laughed at him. The repeated promises sound playful and confident, but they also suggest hurt: he pictures a future in which the other person regrets how they treated him. His feelings are therefore mixed—he wants to prove himself, yet still cares about being wanted.

“Be a wheel” appears to mean becoming important, admired, or a success; the lyrics pair it with “be somebody” and having everything go his way. “A real gone cat” is slang for someone stylish or impressive, adding a comic, swaggering tone. The speaker’s imagined stroll past the other person, while refusing to look at them, acts out a small revenge: he wants them to notice his new status and feel ignored in return.
