Come Sail Away

The lyrics follow a speaker who leaves familiar life behind and sets out toward an unknown future. At first, the journey feels like a search for freedom and a chance to keep going. Looking at the sea brings back memories of childhood friends and shared hopes. The mood shifts from reflection and disappointment to wonder when mysterious visitors invite the speaker aboard their ship.

The open sea suggests both possibility and uncertainty: the speaker can choose a new direction, but cannot know what lies ahead. “Searching for tomorrow on every shore” makes hope sound like an ongoing quest rather than a destination already reached. The “pot of gold” evokes the happy ending people are promised in stories, while the mention of missing out on it hints that real life has not matched those expectations.

The angels and starship create a deliberately surprising turn. The visitors might represent a thrilling escape from ordinary life, or they might be part of a dreamlike fantasy; the lyrics do not settle the question. Their invitation sounds hopeful, but leaving with them also means moving far beyond the familiar world. The song can therefore feel uplifting and slightly strange at the same time.
