Lyrics meaning
The lyrics present a speaker who says he once loved someone but killed her because he found her constant complaining unbearable. He claims to be happier afterward, yet the repeated refrain and the admission that he can still hear her suggest that the relationship—or his memory of it—has not entirely left him. The tone is deliberately jarring, mixing a grim subject with casual, almost playful delivery.
“Six feet under” is an idiom meaning buried in a grave. “I can still hear her complain” may be taken literally within the song’s dark scenario, but it can also suggest that her voice lingers in his thoughts. The detail that he kept her buried in his backyard because he knew he would miss her creates a strange contrast: he wants her gone, but also wants to keep her close.
The lyrics do not make it clear whether the speaker should be understood as telling a literal story or using exaggerated black humor to describe escaping an unhappy relationship. “Take it for what it is” encourages a direct reading, but does not settle the question. Either way, the cheerful boasts sit uneasily beside the violence, leaving the listener to decide how seriously to take the narrator.
