Lyrics meaning
The lyrics describe a journey toward freedom, belonging, and a less polluted way of life. The speaker first meets someone heading to a farm to join a music gathering and “set my soul free.” Later, arriving to find a huge crowd celebrating through song, the speaker seems to feel part of something hopeful. The mood moves from personal uncertainty toward shared joy, though that hope is mixed with concern about war.
“Stardust” and “golden” suggest that people are made of nature and have a special worth. The repeated wish to return to “the garden” may mean recovering a simpler, more peaceful relationship with the natural world. Feeling “like a cog” means feeling like a small, replaceable part in a large system; the speaker’s wish to escape the “smog” can be read as a desire to leave behind both dirty air and a stifling way of life. In the dream, bombers turning into butterflies transform images of destruction into symbols of peace and change.
The gathering is presented as more than a concert: its songs and celebration offer a moment of community. Still, the lyrics do not claim that a crowd can solve every problem. “Getting back” to the garden may be a literal wish for nature, an ideal of innocence, or an unreachable hope. The speaker’s uncertainty about identity remains, but learning and connection seem to offer a path forward.
