Sweet Leilani

The lyrics are a tender love song praising someone called Leilani. The speaker describes her as beautiful and says that being with her has fulfilled a long-held dream. The mood stays joyful and admiring, moving from images of natural beauty to the personal claim that she is his “paradise.”

“Nature fashioned” Leilani suggests that nature itself created her with care, while roses and dew add freshness and delicacy to the picture. A “bower” is a shady, leafy shelter, making her arrival seem like the beginning of a lovely scene. Calling her “paradise” is a metaphor: she is not literally a perfect place, but the person who makes the speaker feel complete and happy.

The song’s praise is idealized and romantic. The tropical skies are said to be “jealous” of her blue eyes, a playful personification that makes her beauty seem brighter than the surrounding landscape. “You are my dream come true” expresses deep affection, though it may also suggest that the speaker is seeing her through an admiring, almost perfecting lens. The lyrics focus on his feelings, so they tell us much more about his devotion than about Leilani herself.
