Lyrics
"Life is a tragedy," you said as you laughed at me
The funniest jokes, they're all a sad reality
So I held you like you're mine and you wept like you laughed
And I smelled your hair for the very first time
And I hated all those boys and how they pushed you around
'Cause God gave you an ass and then he put you in a country town
So I laid it all out, all the money I had saved
And you laid down and said we'd be okay
Lyla, I'll push for better
I'll push harder, last forever
Hey, hey, hey, push on!
(Push now) Push that pedal, push it down
Hey, hey, what's with time?
(Keep on pressing down)
Push on up out of the ground
Push that pedal, push it down
Push, push, push, push
Push, push, push, push
Push, push, push, push
It started as a summer of a one-man hate
Then a girl on the news showed us all the love we could make of it
So by the beating of our hearts, as if the stars, they all aligned
For sixty-nine days straight, we lived a life that couldn't wait
And now I wanted to ask you, but you beat me to it
You said you'd be a beautiful dancer and I'd make a pretty good poet
And it'd be perfect in that way that
Beauty fades and we all forget things
But I should write it down and you'd be stuck on my pages
Of bottomless love letters published all over
While we're up and out, hanging out as we never grow older
Skyline selfies and a summer crush, hippie doubts
And a moonlight rush, we fought and then I told you
You pushed and I would've told you
That your smile is my sorrow and my
Mother's tears are on your love tomorrow
And I would never ever be like him
But my old man, he's ever burning like a fire within
And I'm sorry, Lyla, push it harder
I pushed you away, I'm sorry I pushed you, babe
Hey, hey, hey, push on!
(Push now) Push that pedal, push it down
Hey, keep pushing me
(Keep on pressing down)
Push the shade under a burning tree
Set me up by the rising seas
Push, push, push, push me
Push, push, push, push
Push, push, push, push
Push, push, push, push
Hey, hey, push on!
(Push now) Take your lighter lights, Babylon
Hey, hey, push on!
Hey, could be a river of Babylon, Lyla
Hey, hey
(Keep on pressing down)
Push that pedal, push it down
Hey, keep pushing me
(Keep on pressing down)
Push the shade under a burning tree
Set me up by the rising seas
Push, push, push, push, push
