Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to summarize for you
The meeting that I have just had with the bipartisan leaders
Which began at eight o'clock and was completed two hours later
I began the meeting by making this statement
Which I think needs to be made to the nation
"America's โPublic Enemy #1โ in the United States is drug abuse"
I wake up every mornin' to a pain Iโve been ignorin'
I'm runnin' out of warnings and I canโt take the day off
Thereโs a pill for every ill
Popped a couple, to chill, and I really think it paid off
At first I felt relief
That was way beyond belief Thinkin' "Maybe this is too strong,โ hmm
Addiction had me scared
The journal said itโs rare, I wonder what could go wrong?
At the epicenter of an epidemic
Fueled by faulty academics
Corporate greed and lack of ethics
Itโs quite poetic
Can't afford the bills, outta pills
Lacin' up with fentanyl until eventually theyโre killed
Canโt ignore the lack of room inside the morgues
Rent a freezer truck to keep the bodies off the floor
And oxy tabs get lazy when they give you your reward
'fore you know, you start to note itโs not as potent as before
Iโm a prophet of the truth
Know that pharmacists ainโt profitin' from death among the youth
We ainโt startin' these addictions with prescriptions through the roof
That description isnโt true itโs just a few who are uncouth
Time to save a whole profession
Gotta grind and pay attention
Make connections, learn the lessons
Look the wicked in the eyes and maybe ask a couple questions
Like โWhy the drugs you make today kill more than Smith and Wessons?โ
This, this is crack cocaine
It could easily have been heroin or PCP
Itโs as innocent-looking as candy
But itโs turning our cities into battle zones
And itโs murdering our children
Let there be no mistake
This stuff is poison
And as a future pharmacist
I know Iโll face some fire
So Iโm watching out for arsonists
I kill the flames with kindness
Iโm a servant to the people
And if we learn our history we can write some better sequels
Once upon a time, I read some vows and took an oath
On the day that I was cloaked in my shiny white coat
To alleviate your pain, to lessen all your sufferinโ
To never be dishonest and uphold the sacred covenants
To keep on addin' mileage on my endless quest for knowledge
Hold myself accountable for decades after college
Work with the physician, dietician, and the nurse
We can start movin' ahead I'm sick of staying in reverse
Ignorance is bliss I wish this pain was never known
And if youโve been afflicted know that you are not alone
This is for my brother laying prone beneath the stones
And all the broken homes where the ghosts freely roam
Cause every night Iโm crying
From this pain thatโs on my mind
Cause I know I couldโve tried
To keep you closer to my side
Mama canโt find rest
Baba been too stressed and
Youngins asking why you left
One day weโll sit beneath the trees
Let the breeze caress our feet
Wash our sins away with ease, yes please
I hope you found your peace
Try to catch up on some sleep
Pray the lord your soul to keep
Itโs back-to-school time for Americaโs children
And while drug and alcohol abuse cuts across all generations
It is especially damaging to the young people
On whom our future depends
So Tonight
From our family to yours
From our home to yours
Thank you for joining us
That is the end of take one
