Rocky Mountain Way

The lyrics present a speaker looking back on a year of change and saying that a new way of life feels better than the old one. The mood is loose and confident, with a hint of impatience toward people who keep talking or worrying. The repeated refrain makes the speaker’s preference sound firm, though the song does not explain exactly what has changed.

“Couldn’t get much higher” may suggest feeling exhilarated or reaching an extreme; it could also carry a more literal or playful meaning. “Out to pasture” usually means retired or no longer useful, so it may point to leaving an old role behind. The baseball image of loaded bases and Casey at bat creates a moment of pressure: “Time to change the batter” implies that it is time for someone else, or a different approach, to take over.

The “Rocky Mountain way” is presented as an appealing alternative, but its precise meaning remains open. It might refer to a place, a lifestyle, or simply the speaker’s own name for a fresh start. The lines about not needing anyone to cry over a sad story sound dismissive, yet they may also be a joking way to avoid dwelling on the past.
