They shot James Meredith down just like a dog
June the sixth, 1966
They shot James Meredith down just like a dog
Mr. President, I wonder what are you gon' do now?
I don't believe you gon' do nothin' at all
ย
He was marchin' through Mississippi
Leadin' my people what he thought was right
He was marchin' through Mississippi
Leadin' my people what he thought was right
The last I heard of my boy James Meredith
Some evil man tried to take his life
ย
I was lookin' at Dick Gregory this mornin'
He said I had to take a plane
I was lookin' at Dick Gregory this mornin'
He said I had to take a plane
ย
The newspaper man asked him
"What do you think you gonna prove?"
He said, "I'm gonna lead the peoples"
"Just like James Meredith do"
