You don't have to be up to date
Being trendy ain't de rigeur
P'raps you'd like me to demonstrate
Fashion goes in a blur
What was once oh so very hip
Simply stimulates laughter
'Cos what always comes after
Is now the must have!
So the cycle goes round and round
'Til you're dizzy and lost your way
Take a step back and stand your ground
Spot when life's a clichรฉ
Keeping up with the Jones is hard and yet
I know I'll try so hard to get
Ev'ry thing that will keep me up to date
With you
ย
You don't have to go with the flow
'In the swim' could mean you may drown
If your hope is to steal the show
You must aim for the crown
Fashion's not what you think it is
It's what other guys follow
'Cos it's usually quite hollow
Like the emperor's clothes!
The agenda that others write
Isn't written in blood on stone
Not a matter of black and white
No the script is my own
'Cos I know I can, find another way
Knowing that what I have to say
Isn't gonna be moved by any shove
'Cos we all know that
When you're talking love
I'll be so up to date with you
