Fireworks

The lyrics tell a strange, fast-moving story about two sisters who leave school, cannot find work, and set off together. They begin with little money and sleep outdoors, but later become wealthy musicians in Hollywood. The mood shifts from uncertain adventure to sudden success, while the repeated song within the story gives their journey a playful, show-business feel.

“Stole a small town car” suggests a reckless or desperate start, while “pushing all their luck” means taking risks and hoping things will work out. The “fireworks” are both real lights in the sky and a metaphor for excitement, passion, or a dazzling effect on someone’s feelings. “Stars in your eyes” similarly suggests wonder or intense attraction.

The song’s story may be intentionally exaggerated: the sisters’ rise from hardship to fame happens quickly, almost like a fantasy. The lines about someone “coming to get you” interrupt the celebratory tone and could sound threatening, theatrical, or simply like part of a performance. It is not clear whether the lyrics present the sisters’ success as inspiring, absurd, or both; the contrast between their rough beginning and glamorous ending leaves room for different readings.
