Lyrics
Maestro, far be it for me to interrupt this amazing music-making
Experience. But as you see, ladies and gentlemen, I have with me
General Smith. I have the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps
Right here, and I have the Drum Major of the United States Marine
Band on stage. And we're out here, John, because our Acting
Commandant actually has a little bit of a bone to pick with you
And I'm gonna turn the microphone over to General Smith so he can
Explain what has been bothering him during this amazing concert
So, Maestro, it is a privilege for us all to be here with you. But
As Colonel Fetting said, it's come to my attention that this is
The fifth time, I believe, that you have conducted The President's
Own United States Marine Band. The problem is we don't allow anyone
To conduct the Marine Band who is not a Marine. And so this has
Been a problem. So there are only two options. Option one is that
We would remove you, which I would be the first person to be run
Out of the Kennedy Center on a rail. Or option two is we fulfill
The wishes of our 38th Commandant, General Berger, who in one of
His last acts as Commandant has bestowed upon you the greatest gift
That any Marine can give. And that is the title of Honorary Marine
Attention to orders. From Commandant of the Marine Corps to all who
Shall see these presents, greetings. Know ye that reposing special
Trust and confidence in the patriotism, fidelity, and abilities of
Mr. John T. Williams, I do appoint him an Honorary Marine in the
United States Marine Corps for his unwavering support and devotion to
Corps and country. In testimony whereof I, General David H. Berger
Commandant of the Marine Corps, have hereunto subscribed my name
Done at the city of Washington this 23rd day of June
In the year of our Lord 2023 and the 248th year of
The independence of the United States of America. Signed
David H. Berger, 38th Commandant of the Marine Corps
