Witchy Woman

The lyrics portray a mysterious, captivating woman who seems to live outside ordinary rules. The speaker is fascinated by her, but also wary: the mood shifts from wonder at her freedom and allure to rumors of danger and a warning to someone who may want to love her. Her “endless flight” suggests a life that is unsettled and hard to contain.

Several images make her seem almost supernatural. “Sparks” from her fingertips and “the moon in her eyes” turn her into a figure of magic and night; these may also express how extraordinary she appears to the speaker. Being “spellbound” suggests intense attraction, as if he has lost some control over his feelings. The “Devil’s bed” is likely an image of a dangerous or sinful life, rather than a literal place. Likewise, “someone’s underground” hints darkly at death or trouble, without explaining exactly what happened.

The song leaves the woman’s real nature uncertain. She may be genuinely reckless, or the speaker may be turning a powerful attraction into a frightening legend. The rumors and supernatural language make her seem threatening, but they may reveal as much about the speaker’s imagination and fear as about her.
