I Promise

The speaker repeatedly promises to stay, even when the relationship or situation becomes difficult. The mood is devoted but uneasy: boredom, being shut out, arguments, and danger all test the promise. By the end, the repeated words sound less like a confident declaration and more like an attempt to hold on.

The wrecked ship suggests that things have gone badly wrong, while the “rotten deck” makes staying seem uncomfortable or even harmful. Asking to be tied to it may be an extreme way of saying, “Don’t let me leave,” though it could also suggest feeling trapped. “Lock me out” implies rejection or exclusion, and “chilling chats” points to tense conversations.

The promise might express sincere commitment through hardship, or it might reveal fear, dependence, or a struggle to keep a commitment that no longer feels easy.
