Last week I ran into Georgia
She said have I told ya
There's something about you been different these days
She asked me is there
Some kind of skincare routine
If I'm doing something she ain't
She's got a hair appointment for next's month
And wants to know what I got done
And the truth is
I went back to my roots
Swore off the bleach
Cut off my bangs like my momma had in '93
Right back to who I used to be
Who would have thought dirty blonde
Fit so naturally
Finally split ways with dead ends
And God knows that it was so long overdue
I went back to my roots
(Back to my roots)
This hair it started with lowlights
Then on a girls night
With box wine and box dye
Woke up to it pink
When he didn't come back
I died it jet black
Got real tired of that
'Bout after a week
I went purple, blue, even red
It's funny how what fit me best was
Back to my roots
Swore off the bleach
Cut off my bangs like my momma had in '93
Right back to who I used to be
Who would have thought dirty blonde
Fit so naturally
Finally split ways with dead ends
And God knows that it was so long overdue
I went back to my roots
(Back to my roots)
Yeah back to my roots
And these roots run deep
So I let 'em grow
Hell I just let it breath
Right back to who I was underneath
Stopped trying to be somebody that ain't me
Finally split ways with dead ends
And God knows that it was so long overdue
I aint saying I wont get a highlight or two
But for now
I'm back to my roots
(Back to my roots)
