Change Of The Guard

The lyrics present a moment when the world seems to be shifting toward something new. The speaker urges listeners to notice this change in ordinary surroundings and to join it rather than resist. The mood is upbeat and encouraging, but it also calls for action: people must set aside pride and make choices if they want to move forward.

Several images make the change feel close and physical. “Laughter in the street” suggests public life becoming lively or hopeful, while “fire beneath your feet” implies energy and urgency that are hard to ignore. “Change of the guard” usually means one group or authority giving way to another; here, it may suggest a broader change in who or what shapes society. The request to take off guns can be read as an appeal to put down weapons and reduce conflict.

The lyrics are hopeful, but not entirely certain about what comes next. The claim that “all the signs are right” expresses confidence, while the advice to “play your card” recognizes that progress depends partly on individual decisions. “Cowboys” may refer to armed or defiant people, or simply be a vivid way to address those who might resist. The song invites listeners to welcome change, without spelling out exactly what that change will be.
