Lyrics
Mama danced down at the Bird six nights a week
And the bikers and the businessmen they marveled at her mystique
They'd lay down their money just to watch her long physique
Daddy played drums in a local rock roll band
He'd pull up in his '84 customized van
And spend his tips watching Mama shake it to the Jake House band
Now they got married and Mama she retired
Daddy got a job on a pole hanging telephone wires
They got everything their little hearts desired
Oh Daddy worked the pole so Mama wouldn't have to
There was no doubt at all their love was true
Well to make it through, you gotta do what you gotta do
Daddy worked the pole so Mama wouldn't have to
Daddy's spent 18 years in the snow and rain
And when he came home, Mama danced while the radio played
I never heard either one of them once complain
When I had to go to college and all things got real tight
And Mama start thinking about those wild and lucrative nights
She would make three times the money just to showing off her delights
Well she explained it all to Daddy and they formed a burlesque troop
Now he plays drums in a thousand dollar shark skin suit
And I'm summa cum laude cause Mama's still got the moves
Well now Mama works the pole so Daddy doesn't have to
Well there is no doubt at all their love is true
Well to make it through, you gotta do what you gotta do
Now Mama works the pole so Daddy doesn't have to
Well...
Oh Daddy worked the pole so Mama didn't have to
